Adjacent to the World Expo 2010 site in Shanghai, Mu Garden is a 6.7 acre composite of neo-classical Chinese gardens each with distinctive characteristics, idiosyncratic functions and poetic details. Collectively, they invite visitors to experience and enjoy the fascinating facets of Chinese landscape architecture. Shaped from a charmless industrial site, Mu Garden expresses China’s ancient and diverse landscape architecture as a bold, contemporary, dynamic landmark in tandem with the theme of the Expo “Better City, Better Life”. Mu Garden offers locals and visitors, young and old, physically able and challenged a myriad of accessible garden space to gather, relax and be rejuvenated during and after the Expo. The creative use of local building materials and native plants vividly illustrates and brings to life the philosophical tenet uniting all Chinese gardens: creating multi-sensory experiences to evoke marvelous feelings and memories of nature. Mu Garden continues to attract local residents and international visitors to experience the allure and artistry of Chinese landscape architecture and culture set in one of the most fast-paced cities in the world.
